Bioethics in Theory: Bioethics in Practice

University of Bristol, 31st August – 1st September 2016

“The Postgraduate Bioethics Conference (PGBC) is an annual conference aimed at doctoral researchers in applied ethics broadly conceived. The PGBC provides an opportunity for postgraduate students and established academics working in Bioethics to come together, share their research, engage with the work of others and in career development activities. The PGBC began in 2006, by a group of Wellcome Trust funded PhD students who felt there was no forum for peer learning in UK Bioethics for doctoral students. Since then the PGBC has run annually, gaining a reputation as the leading environment for doctoral Bioethicist to gain experience presenting and obtain feedback on their research. It is anticipated that 2016 will mark the 10th iteration of this annual conference and the 20th anniversary of this years host organisation, The University of Bristol’s Centre for Ethics in Medicine.”

Rose and Arianna will be giving the following talks:

‘The worst anorexic ever’. Narratives of shame in diagnostic crossover from eating disorders, Rose Mortimer

‘Predictive genetic testing in minors for psychiatric conditions: Non-medical benefits as an ethical justification?, Arianna Manzini
